Mbabane – The Office of the Auditor General has restated its commitment to setting the pace in meeting mandatory quality management compliance standards across public institutions in Eswatini.

Auditor General Mr Timothy Matsebula was speaking at the close of a five day Quality Management training held at the UN House in Mbabane on Friday, 30 January. He addressed reviewers and team leaders from the OAG, linking the credibility of the institution to the delivery of high quality audits that sustain public and parliamentary trust.

Mr Matsebula said the OAG plays a critical role in improving service delivery by ensuring that public resources are properly accounted for, a process he said strengthens the efficiency and effectiveness of the executive arm of government. He added that the OAG is a key component of the rule of law ecosystem, working alongside Parliament and the Judiciary, and submits its reports to these bodies to support transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

The training was facilitated by the African Organisation of English speaking Supreme Audit Institutions AFROSAI E and received support from the United Nations Development Programme through the Strengthening the Rule of Law Project.

UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ms Nessie Golakai Gould, who also spoke at the event, said the workshop went beyond quality management systems or international standards. Rather, it focused on fostering a culture where quality becomes an everyday practice, one in which strong systems enable better audits, improved governance and ultimately more effective service delivery for the people of Eswatini.
