MBABANE – The Ministry of Education and Training has announced that the reopening of schools across the country, originally scheduled for January 20, 2026, has been postponed to January 27.
Minister Owen Nxumalo said the decision comes after careful consideration of challenges currently facing several schools nationwide. He explained that the postponement is mainly due to ongoing learner registrations that have not yet been completed in some schools, as well as heavy rainfall that has caused damage to infrastructure in a number of learning institutions.
“The decision was made after carefully assessing the situation on the ground, particularly for schools that have sustained damage and those still finalising registrations,” Minister Nxumalo said.
The Ministry noted that the additional week will allow affected schools to address infrastructural issues, complete administrative processes, and ensure the safety of learners and educators ahead of the academic year.
Parents, guardians, and school administrators have been urged to take note of the revised opening date, with assurances that further updates will be communicated if necessary.
