Mbabane – The Eswatini Epilepsy Organization has launched the 10th edition of the Yellow Epilepsy Charity Half Marathon, scheduled for February 7, 2026, as part of the global observance of Epilepsy Week.
The annual event, to be held in Lobamba, has grown into one of the country’s leading charity sporting activities. It is organised to raise awareness about epilepsy, challenge stigma linked to the condition and mobilise resources for the construction of an Epilepsy Centre at Sikhuphe.
Director of the organisation Abraham Ntshalintsali said the race has become more than a competitive event, serving as a public education platform and a source of support for people living with epilepsy. Proceeds from the 2026 race will be channelled towards the planned centre, which is expected to improve specialised care and support services.
The programme includes three race categories, a 21 kilometre half marathon, a 10 kilometre race and a 5 kilometre fun run. All races will start and finish at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association premises next to Somhlolo National Stadium. The event will be licensed and regulated under World Athletics rules.
Organisers have confirmed the race routes and water points. The 21 kilometre race will run towards Nkhanini with water stations at Sitjeni Junction, Mahlanya Road, Bethany and Lozitha Y Junction, Lozitha Bridge and along the D38 at Elangeni. The 10 kilometre race will pass Parliament, Nkhanini and Mashibini towards the American Embassy, while the 5 kilometre run will also be supported by water services along the D38.
Competition rules outlined by organisers call for proper registration and adherence to regulations, with penalties including disqualification for violations. Age categories range from youths aged 10 to 16 years through to grand masters aged between 60 and 90 years. Athletes will be required to wear category tags and provide proof of age where necessary.
Foreign athletes who place in any category will be required to present valid clearance from their respective national federations. Early registration has been encouraged to avoid delays on race day, with organisers and Athletics Eswatini calling on athletes and members of the public from all sectors to take part in the event.
