Ezulwini – Honourable Savannah Maziya, Eswatini’s Minister of Public Service, co chaired Plenary Three of the forty fourth African Association for Public Administration and Management Roundtable Conference yesterday, Wednesday 3 December, where she joined continental leaders in examining how African governments can build more agile and citizen focused public sectors.
The session, held as part of the regional gathering on public administration, brought together policymakers, academics and governance experts to discuss how stronger partnerships, modernised governance systems and digital transformation can improve service delivery for African citizens.
Discussions centred on policy coherence across government institutions, cooperation between traditional leadership structures and the state in land governance, and the need for higher standards in public administration training. Delegates also looked at what African countries require to advance both Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals under Agenda 2030, along with the importance of regional research networks that can support capacity building.
Minister Maziya told participants that collaboration, innovation and a shared continental commitment are essential for accelerating sustainable development. She said adopting technology within government systems is ultimately about protecting the dignity of citizens, noting that digital tools allow services to be delivered faster, at a lower cost and in a way that is accessible to all.
“Embracing technology in public administration is about restoring citizen dignity. Digital transformation enables faster services, reduced costs and inclusive solutions that truly place citizens at the centre of service delivery,” she said.
