Ezulwini – His Majesty King Mswati III, incoming Chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, has praised the people and the government of Malawi for delivering peaceful and credible general elections held in September 2025.
Back then former Deputy Prime Minister Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku led the SADC Election Observer Mission(SEOM).
The king, speaking through Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, Prince Lonkhokhelo, said Eswatini was honoured to take on the leadership role during such a significant democratic moment for the region.

“As a proud member of the SADC Organ Troika and incoming chairperson, the Kingdom of Eswatini had the honour of leading SEOM during the 2025 General Elections of the Republic of Malawi,” he said.
The king commended Malawi for elections that were widely regarded as peaceful, credible and orderly, an assessment he said echoed across various observer groups.
The incoming chair emphasized that the conduct of the poll reflected the country’s strong commitment to democratic values.
Reinforcing the importance of electoral integrity, the king said, “Elections are the lifeblood of democracy. They must serve to unite, not divide; to build, not to break. It is therefore essential that elections are conducted within a sound legal framework, guided by integrity, transparency, and professionalism.”
The king further highlighted the essential role played by Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) in ensuring such outcomes, noting that their professionalism remains central to strengthening democracy across the region.
