Mbabane – Boxer Superstores has finally opened its long-awaited Mbabane branch, bringing an end to weeks of public anticipation and doing so just in time for the busy Black Friday rush.
The store opened its doors at 7am today after the Municipal Council of Mbabane issued a provisional Occupancy Licence to the developer, clearing the last hurdle that had stalled operations. The licence allows the developer to complete outstanding requirements within a set timeframe while the store proceeds with trading.
Municipal Council Information and Public Relations Officer Lucky Tsabedze confirmed the development, saying the provisional licence followed the completion of key safety, parking and structural approvals.
Boxer’s Communications Specialist, Jason McCall, said the team was excited to finally welcome customers, especially as the opening coincides with one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year.
“This is wonderful news for us and for our customers. The store opens just in time for Black Friday and our shelves are fully stocked with incredible deals and essential groceries,” he said.
The opening follows more than a week of uncertainty as the public awaited clarity on compliance issues between the developer of the New Mall and the municipality. Last week, when the store remained closed, Tsabedze had explained that an Occupation Certificate could only be issued once all approvals were complete.
With the certificate now in hand, Boxer assured shoppers of quality service.
“We know many people have been eagerly waiting. Our staff are on site, the tills are ready and we can’t wait to serve you. Boxer Mbabane is officially open for business starting today,” McCall added.
Boxer Regional Manager Jeremiah Mkhonta said they are optimistic about strong sales, noting that the chain is currently running its “Black Week” promotions.
“Our discounts started on Monday and run until Sunday. We are hoping to make good sales because customers have been responding well to the specials,” Mkhonta said.
The Mbabane outlet becomes Boxer’s eighth store in Eswatini.
