MBABANE – All eyes will be on Mbabane Highlanders FC this evening, not because of their title credentials, but due to the mounting pressure threatening to derail their campaign as they face a Sisonkhe FC side desperate to escape the foot of the table.
The MTN Premier League clash, set for 6pm at the Mavuso Sports Centre today, arrives at a tense moment for Inkunz’emnyama. Despite boasting one of the league’s strongest squads on paper, Highlanders have struggled to turn dominance into victories, managing only eight points in their opening five matches. Their back-to-back draws against Malanti Chiefs and Manzini Wanderers have sparked questions about their ability to maintain consistency.
While the one of the capital city giants are still within touching distance of the summit, tonight’s fixture carries the weight of expectation. Both teams need a win with Banumzane in “a terrible and hell of a ride start of season 2025/26” recording 5 consecutive losses in the past matches. A win also for Highlanders could briefly propel them above current leaders, Manzini Sea Birds, but anything less would deepen concerns about their early-season form.
Coach Ernest Mavuso, tasked with steadying the ship, will once again hang his hopes on star attackers Siphiwe “Mini Cooper” Cele and Siwakhile Shongwe, whose creativity has kept Highlanders afloat.

Veteran MaJahesibili “Giggs” Ndlovu and goal-threat Siyabonga “Siya” Mkhonto will also be central to breaking down a Sisonkhe side that, despite their poor results, has shown flashes of resilience.Sisonkhe, still hunting for their first win after five outings, arrived wounded but far from defeated.
Their 5–1 humiliation at the hands of Young Buffaloes last weekend has heightened the urgency within Mbongeniseni Mamba’s camp. But it is that same desperation that could make them dangerous tonight. With players like Lungelo Maziya and key squad members capable of unsettling opponents, Sisonkhe will view Highlanders’ recent stumbles as an opening.
A positive result would lift them from the bottom and potentially alter the trajectory of their season. Highlanders’ firepower, led by Mukelo Nhlabatsi, Mpendulo Mavuso and Celimphilo Zwane, makes them favourites on paper, but football seldom follows the script.
Anything short of a decisive performance will leave the giants vulnerable to an upset that could reshape the lower end of the standings. Whether Highlanders rise to the challenge or Sisonkhe seize the moment, tonight’s encounter promises tension, urgency and the potential for drama under the Mavuso lights.
