MBABANE – Eswatini’s rising soul artist SamTone is set to make his official debut this Friday, 17 October 2025, with the release of his first album Cry of my heart under New Life Records.
The project, produced by local producer Nicholas Dlamini, popularly known as Slotta, will be available on all digital streaming platforms. SamTone, whose real name is Samukelo Magongo, said the album’s title came naturally during the writing process as it perfectly captured the story behind his music.
Born and raised in Manzini, SamTone’s musical journey began in 2012 when he performed at his local church during a Christmas carol service. That moment, he recalls, sparked his passion for music and live performance.
Over the years, he has become a familiar face in Eswatini’s live music scene, performing at venues such as Hilton Garden Inn, Happy Valley Hotel, Summerfields Hotel, The Gorge Hotel and The Royal Villas Hotel. He has also worked as a backing vocalist for several gospel and secular artists.
His performance highlights include sharing the Bushfire Festival stage with Sands (Sandziso Matsebula) and Umuti (Muzi Ngwenya), formerly known as Mozaik, and performing alongside Zamo (Nomzamo Dlamini) at numerous live shows.
Although the project is released under New Life Records, SamTone clarified that he is not signed to the label but has a publishing agreement with them. He revealed he has collaborated on a few unreleased songs, including one with Eswatini’s DJ Cup (Zama Maseko).
Looking ahead, the singer expressed interest in working with celebrated Eswatini vocalist Msimisi Sithole. Fans can next see SamTone perform at the University of Eswatini on 31 October 2025, as he officially introduces his soulful and deeply personal sound to the world.
