Maseru, Lesotho – Experts, policymakers, and practitioners from across Southern Africa gathered at Avani Maseru on Monday for the 11th SADC Multi-Stakeholder Water Dialogue. The two-day event, which concluded on Tuesday, focused on the role of water in driving climate-resilient and economically sustainable regional development corridors.
The Dialogue aimed to strengthen water security as a foundation for economic growth, industrialisation, regional integration, and inclusive development. Delegates discussed how water resources can support agriculture, energy, trade, and industry while ensuring equitable access and climate-smart solutions.
Lesotho’s Minister of Natural Resources, Honourable Mohlomi Moleko, told participants that water remains essential for food and energy security and must be central to planning and investment within trade corridors.
Over the course of the two days, delegates examined ways to align institutions, policies, and strategies to maximise the water sector’s contribution to regional corridors. They explored innovative infrastructure, strengthened partnerships across water, energy, agriculture, transport, ICT, and conservation, and formulated actionable recommendations for policy and practice in the SADC region.
