Swakopmund, Namibia – A multi-sectoral delegation from Eswatini is participating in the SADC Capacity Building Training on the International Code of Marketing for Breast Milk Substitutes taking place in Swakopmund, Namibia.
The meeting brings together countries in the region to strengthen enforcement of the Code, which guides how breast milk substitutes are marketed so that breastfeeding is not negatively affected. The initiative is aimed at improving breastfeeding rates and, in turn, child nutrition.
According to the Ministry of Health, the Eswatini team includes representatives from the ministry itself, the Eswatini National Nutrition Council, World Vision and UNICEF Eswatini.
On the first day, participants focused on understanding the provisions of the Code and the steps required to develop strong and effective national laws to regulate the marketing of breast milk substitutes.
