Lomahasha – Deputy Prime Minister Senator Thulisile Dladla yesterday handed over four new houses to families whose homes were destroyed by last year’s storms in Lomahasha Inkhundla.

The houses, already occupied by the beneficiaries, were built through the support of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA). Among the recipients was Ntombi Mahlalela, who lost her one-room stick-and-mud house during the storm. She has since moved in with her children and grandchildren, saying the family finally feels safe after months of uncertainty.

Another beneficiary, Tholakele Fundzama, who lives with eight children and grandchildren, broke into song during the handover, expressing gratitude for the assistance. Her home had also collapsed, though no injuries were reported at the time.

The third house went to Cecelia Mahlalela, granddaughter of the late Gogo Janet Langa, while the fourth was allocated to the family of the late Mkhulu Mphini Sifundza. His sister, Fodo, who is in poor health, now occupies the house, with the DPM promising additional medical support for her.

Senator Dladla commended NDMA for responding swiftly to the needs of affected households and announced that two more houses would soon be constructed in the constituency. She also urged children to treat their parents with care, condemning instances where elders are forced out of their homes.

The ceremony was attended by NDMA Chief Executive Officer Victor Mahlalela and Member of Parliament Zanele Mashaba.
