Johannesburg – Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the signing of midfielder Lebohang Maboe on a free transfer, making him the club’s 10th signing of the current transfer window.
The 30 year old left Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season after struggling for game time, partly due to injuries. He had joined the Pretoria side from Maritzburg United in the 2017/18 campaign but later fell down the pecking order.
Maboe spent the second half of last season on loan at SuperSport United, where he scored once and provided two assists in 16 appearances to help the club escape relegation.
The midfielder returns to his boyhood club, having previously come through the Chiefs’ development ranks at Naturena. His arrival comes at a time when the Soweto giants are reinforcing their squad ahead of their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, secured through their Nedbank Cup triumph over Orlando Pirates in May.
Chiefs have been busy in the transfer market, recently signing South African born Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, Etiosa Ighodaro, Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako.
The club has also enjoyed a strong start to the Betway Premiership, winning their opening three matches of the 2025/26 season under coach Nasreddine Nabi. Chiefs are second on the table, level on points with leaders Sekhukhune United.
