MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has called on Taiwanese investors to seize business opportunities in Eswatini, declaring the kingdom open and ready for investment.

The King addressed a 22-member delegation of businesspeople from Taiwan during a presentation hosted at the Mandvulo Grand Hall on Tuesday evening. The investors are in the country on a scoping mission, exploring areas for possible business ventures.

His Majesty told the visiting delegation that Eswatini offers a gateway to continental and global markets, citing the country’s preferential trade agreements, low crime rates, stable political climate, and cultural hospitality as key reasons to invest.

“We are making history today, especially following the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who represented the President of Taiwan during one of our national celebrations. On that day, we relaunched the strategic oil reserve project — an initiative supported by Taiwan,” he said.

The King praised Taiwan’s resilience, development journey, and global contributions in addressing major challenges such as hunger, poverty, and disease. He said the world is in need of partnerships that bring about real solutions.

“Eswatini gives investors access to markets through agreements such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Taiwanese businesses can benefit from these markets once established in the kingdom,” he said.

King Mswati described Eswatini as peaceful, welcoming, and rich in culture — qualities he believes make it an ideal investment destination.

Taiwan’s Ambassador to Eswatini, Jeremy Liang, assured the King of Taiwan’s continued support and commitment. “We will work hard to realise the spirit that Taiwan can help and Eswatini can lead in Africa,” he said.

The head of the Taiwanese delegation, Ms May Liao, said the visit aimed to better understand Eswatini’s business environment amid changing geopolitical conditions.

As part of the investment plans, Taiwan is set to construct an industrial park at Phocweni. Once construction begins, the facility is expected to be completed within 18 months.
