MBABANE – Orlando Pirates forward Relebohile Mofokeng has become the most nominated player at this year’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards, securing five spots across major categories.
The PSL announced the nominations on Tuesday, with Pirates topping the list with 13 nominations in nine categories. Mofokeng, 20, will contest for both the Footballer of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season awards, where he faces competition from Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lucas Ribeiro and Sekhukhune United’s Keletso Makgalwa.
Mofokeng also secured nominations for the Young Player of the Season, MTN8 Last Man Standing, and Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player awards. The young attacker had an outstanding season, helping Pirates win the MTN8, finish second in the DStv Premiership, and reach the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and the Nedbank Cup final.
Sundowns striker Ribeiro earned multiple nominations after netting 21 goals and providing 14 assists in 51 appearances. Sundowns, who clinched their eighth consecutive league title, feature in every Betway Premiership category.
Kaizer Chiefs guaranteed themselves at least one award after all three nominees for Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament came from their squad. Chiefs’ Inacio Miguel, Gaston Sirino, and Pule Mmodi are vying for the honour after the club secured their first trophy in a decade by beating Pirates 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final.
Chiefs’ Glody Lilepo also received a nod for Goal of the Season for his strike against Marumo Gallants. Chiefs’ captain Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, who has since moved to TS Galaxy, is among the nominees for Diski Challenge Player of the Season after leading Amakhosi to the Diski Challenge title.
The awards will also honour coaches, referees, and emerging talent from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, with nominees coming from Sundowns, Pirates, Chiefs, and other clubs across the league.
