Doha – Iran launched multiple short- and medium-range ballistic missiles targeting the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday, according to US and Qatari officials. Qatar’s Defense Ministry confirmed its air defenses intercepted the missiles, and no casualties were reported.
The attack comes days after US airstrikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities. A senior White House official said the Trump administration anticipated Iranian retaliation but stated the president does not want to escalate military involvement in the region. President Trump was scheduled to discuss the situation with national security officials.
Satellite images show some US military aircraft had been moved from Al Udeid Air Base last week, a precautionary step to protect assets amid rising tensions. US Navy ships based in Bahrain were also reportedly redeployed.
Iran reportedly gave Qatar advance notice of the attack to reduce civilian harm. The missile operation, named “Besharat al-Fath” or “Blessings of Victory,” also included strikes on US bases in Iraq.
Qatar condemned the missile attack, calling it a violation of its sovereignty, and reserved the right to respond in line with international law.
Oil prices initially surged following the strike but later dropped as traders assessed the situation.
Residents in Doha reported hearing loud explosions, with no prior warning from authorities to take shelter.
US embassy staff in Qatar and Bahrain took protective “duck and cover” positions during the attack.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
