Eswatini records six new confirmed COVID-19 cases, number stands at 71

Mbabane: Eswatini has recorded 6 more new confirmed COVID -19 cases, increasing the total number of cases to 71.

This was announced by the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi on Tuesday afternoon in a press conference held at the Cabinet offices. The six new cases are 4 females and 2 males from Manzini and Lubombo Region.

Nkosi said the ministry received a total of 143 results of which 137 were negative and 6 came out positive, bringing the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 71. Manzini continues to have the highest number of confirmed cases as it currently stands at 48, followed by Hhohho with 16 cases, while Lubombo has 5 and Shiselweni with only 2 cases.

According to the minister the “case number 66 is a 57-year old female residing in the Lubombo Region, She is a clinician with a history of contact with a confirmed case. Nkosi said she presented with a mild disease”.

“Case number 67 is a 24-year old male who resides in the Manzini Region. He has no history of travel but had a contact with a confirmed case”.

“Case number 68 is a 25-year old female from the Manzini Region. She has no history of travel and she presented with mild symptoms”.

“Case number 69 is a 47-year old female from the Manzini Region. She has no history of travel and she presented with mild symptoms”.

“Case number 70 is a 32-year old male from the Manzini Region. He has no history of travel and she presented with mild symptoms”.

“And case number 71 is a 45-year old female from the Lubombo Region who is a clinician and she presented with mild symptoms.

The minister went on to say contact tracing for the confirmed cases has begun. She further revealed that of the 71 cases, 10 have been treated, 54 are still undergoing treatment and only one has died.

Nkosi reiterated the ministry’s plea to the public to continue washing their hands frequently with soap and running water or use hand sanitizer and to always observe hand hygiene, avoiding touching their faces, and avoiding close contact with (staying at least one meter away from) other people

When coughing or sneezing, people are urged to cover their mouth or preferably use a face mask.

The minister also emphasized that the public should avoid social gatherings, be it parties, traditional weddings or anything that will bring a lot of people together. She encouraged the nation to continue practicing social distancing.

 The public is also urged to cooperate with rapid response teams as they go about their duties of finding contacts of positive cases.

Coronavirus is spreading at a very high rate, globally according to statistics from the coronavirus global data as of April 28, 2020, 4:00pm there were 3,086,832 confirmed cases worldwide with 212,665 deaths and 935,108 recoveries since the outbreak over the past four months.
