Mankayane — Mankayane Government Hospital has become the third health facility to participate in a picket over shortages of drugs and medical supplies, coinciding with Nurses Week celebrations.
On Thursday, Mankayane joined the protest after the Mbabane National Referral Government Hospital and Nhlangano Health Centre halted operations in response to similar issues.
On Tuesday, health workers—including nurses, laboratory assistants, and orderlies—from Mbabane Government Hospital marched to the Cabinet and Prime Minister’s offices at Hospital Hill, presenting a list of grievances following a peaceful march the previous week.
The following day, staff at Nhlangano Health Centre suspended work in protest, while Mankayane Government Hospital staff displayed banners highlighting the lack of adequate human resources and insufficient medical supplies.
Mayibongwe Masangane, Secretary General of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU), indicated that more government health facilities are expected to join the pickets in solidarity while observing Nurses Week.
