The European Union has granted the Government of Eswatini E15 million to help boost the country’s small businesses, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with a focus on integrating renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. The four-year initiative, running from 2025 to 2028, will assist smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and manufacturing companies in adopting green technologies to enhance business operations and profitability.

The project, designed to foster sustainable economic growth and strengthen energy resilience, is a joint effort between Eswatini’s Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The funding aims to equip local businesses with the tools needed to integrate renewable energy solutions into their daily operations, allowing them to cut costs and increase competitiveness.

The program, which will be implemented with the support of the UNDP, is set to provide tailored assistance to small businesses in Eswatini, enabling them to grow through green investments that improve both operational efficiency and environmental impact.

Prince Lonkhokhela, Minister of Natural Resources and Energy, EU Ambassador to Eswatini, His Excellency Mr. Karsten Mecklenburg, and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Henrik Franklin.
