Mbabane – Crafty playmaker Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze has resigned as a Mbabane Swallows player, the club in a long-as-the-book-of-Psalms statement confirmed.
Sikhondze put to an end a trophy laden career with the country’s most successful club in the turn of the New Millenium having won everything Eswatini football can offer. Henceforth, Swallows has invited interested clubs to initiate negotiations to fast-track the player’s transfer before the window slam shut on the first week of October.
“We are proud of the role played by the player and his progress up to this point. We are grateful of his contribution in bringing the club to where it is today. For the sake of progress, Swallows has opted to respect the player’s wishes and intentions. It is part of Swallows’ policy that everyone associated with the club is allowed the opportunity to grow towards the success and future they want for themselves,” Swallows said in a statement.
‘Pupu’ signed for Swallows in 2006 under the tutelage of Zenzele ‘Ace’ Dlamini alongside Mancoba Zwane, Musa Dlamini and Senzo Dlamini among others after arriving from Illovo. However, he joined Manzini Wanderers two seasons later before returning to the ‘Birds’ nest.
The midfielder had stints with South Africa’s DStv Premiership side Polokwane City and Glad Africa Championship outfit Mbombela United before re-joining Swallows.
In his time at the club, ‘Pupu’ won all domestic trophies including the once-off King’s Super Cup in 2016 which was competed for by Swallows, Royal Leopard and South African football powerhouses Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
