Mbabane: Ahead of what other countries have done, Eswatini might follow suit.

The decision whether or not to extend the partial lockdown will be taken by Cabinet next week Tuesday. The Prime Minister Ambrose Madvulo Dlamini said the cabinet will also review the soon to end partial lockdown to determine whether or not it has served its purpose.

This was revealed by the Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini in an interview with this publication.

Recently, Botswana approved her own 6-month state of public emergency to curb the spread of coronavirus, which according to world meter as at April, 9 showed that the country has thirteen (13) cases with only one (1) death.

Cabinet will be meeting on Tuesday to discuss government issues, where the decision for lock down will also be taken,” issued the head of government.

The Prime minister reaffirmed that all unnecessary movements and visits outside the perimeters of one’s home are restricted except to provide or acquire essential services such as healthcare, food, or banking services, and for the personnel performing such services.

He added that essential entities are expected to continue operating while observing proper hygiene standards that will protect employees from the pandemic, acknowledging that the ministry of commerce provides guidance on which industries fall under essential services.

Reminded the PM, ‘Non-essential travels between towns, cities and regions of the country are not permitted, except for medical reasons or to provide or acquire essential services. Transport of food and goods will be allowed.

Public transport continues to operate due to essential movements with the observing of a one meter space between passengers. All bars are closed, while bottle stores are allowed to operate from 11am–6pm on Mondays to Saturdays, reaffirming that police are vigilant on closing illegal drinking spots and shebeens.

To date,in Eswatini a total of 14 people have been confirmed to have the coronavirus, with 7 recoveries and no deaths.

The coronavirus statistics as determined by World meter show that as at April 11, 2020, 02:00pm there were over 1,715,580 confirmed cases,103,839 deaths and 388,899 recoveries.
