KwaNongoma-Recently appointed Zulu King, Misuzulu KwaZwelithini has strengthened ties with Eswatini by marrying from his mother’s home of birth.

On Sunday, the King, who is the son of the late King Zwelithini and Queen Mantfombi, traditionally wedded Eswatini Bank, Managing Director (MD) Nozizwe Mulela as his second wife. Mulela was tekaed event at the KwaKhangelamakengane Royal Residence in KwaZulu Natal. As a new bride to the Zulu King, the Eswatini Bank MD assumed the name Ndlunkulu Nozizwe Mulela, LaMakhubu.

The wedding was confirmed by her elder cousin and the Nation Magazine Editor, Bheki Makhubu.

Makhubu highlighted that the two had been dating for a while now and they started seeing each other even before King Misuzulu assumed the throne as leader of the Zulu nation. It remains unknown whether the bride will continue as Eswatini Bank MD or not as that the decision remains between the King and his bride as it is a marital issue.

Mulela is reported to have left the country on Saturday with a delegation formed mainly by her cousins and an elder. They returned to Eswatini yesterday (Monday) after the event that officially made her the Zulu King’s second wife. Mulela is the daughter of the late and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Eswatini, Professor Lydia Makhubu.

According to reports, the family was not aware that Mulela would be traditionally wedded by the King of the Zulu people as the request was just for the family to accompany Mulela to the Zulu Kingdom for a family gathering and prayer. Makhubu said “the request or invitation came as no surprise to the family as they reportedly knew that the two had been in courtship, while the King was still a prince and had not been appointed as King Zwelithini’s successor. They were of the idea that Mulela was to be formally introduced to the Zulu royal family as there was a gathering.”

Formal wedding arrangements are yet to be concluded which will take into consideration the two cultures of the couple.
