Mbabane: His Majesty’s Correctional Services officer Dumisani Hlophe (37) and Eswatini Medical Christian University pharmacy student, Innocent Dlamini (21) have won the recent MTN MoMo 10th anniversary trolley dash.

Within 60 seconds, they dashed through the aisles of the Ngwane Park OK Foods supermarket last Friday and filled their trolleys with a range of goodies. Hlophe filled his trolley with groceries valued at E2 015 while Dlamini’s grocery was E2 022.

The win could not have come at a better when most households are negatively affected by the dual strain of Covid-19 and job losses. Hlophe received the groceries almost the same time as his payday. In an interview, he acknowledged that the win provided a huge financial relief for his family of four people.

“For my groceries, I prioritized most of the things we normally buy monthly so I can use the money for other pressing needs,” he said.

Hlophe thanked MTN for the surprise shopping experience.

“I was not expecting to win anything. I was just using MTN MoMo for my usual payments because it is a safe and convenient, hence I was surprised when I was told that I had won. I thank MTN for this surprise shopping experience, especially during this time as the pandemic continues to stretch households financially,” he said.

Dlamini, another winner of the trolley dash said he needed groceries both at both his flat and home. Before dashing around the shop within 60 seconds, he called his mother so she could share her list of priorities.

“When I arrived at the shop, I did a preliminary tour around to plan my route such that I do not miss most of the things we need. This strategy paid off as I could have been easily misled by the advice of shouting spectators if I did not have a thought-out game plan,” he said.

Dlamini said the trolley dash was loads of fun.

“I thank MTN for this lifetime experience. I have never bought home groceries worth so much!”

MoMo subscribers have an opportunity to pay from as little as E100 using MTN MoMo at any retail outlet that accepts MoMo payments and stands a chance to win the next trolley dash.

MTN Eswatini has set aside a total of about E1 million prizes to give back to customers to mark the 1oth anniversary celebration for MTN MoMo.
