Mbabane: Stage two of Kungahlwa kwenille is set to begin on August 15, with a threat of a total shutdown and bringing the country to a standstill.
This is according to posters circulating on social media, notifying people about the intensified stage two of kungahlwa kwenile campaign.
The stage one of kungahlwa kwenile began on the last week of June and was characterized by chaos, burning of businesses, government properties, and looting.
It was during that stage of the unrest where many emaSwati were injured and some lost their lives.
The source of the protests erupted when the government stopped the delivery of petitions at the tinkhundla centres where people were calling for an elected prime minister.
According to sources, the campaign is aimed at putting pressure on the government until arrested Pro-democracy members of parliament Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube are released in custody.
On stage two of the Kingahlwa Kwenile campaign government has stated that they were ready to calm the situation, bring peace and order, and making sure that people are safe.
According to the posters circulating, on 15 august which will be on Sunday, the operation will begin where there would be a total shutdown in the country and operating businesses are expected to suffer as well as those who will be going to work.
“All those caught going to work will be disciplined and all vehicles caught moving, tall gates will stand at E50.” The poster stated that all schools are expected to be closed and those who will be open will be burned.
The poster also stated that they request public transport to cooperate with them and not operate during the period.
Meanwhile, Police Information Communications Officer (PICO) Phindile Vilakati told the times ofEswatikjni that they were aware of the possible threat which was being circulated on social media.
The spikes of the unrest in the country have already been seen manifesting in the Shiselweni region as the regional administration offices were guttered by fire by unknown people.
On Tuesday Protesters in Hluti brought traffic to a standstill in the afternoon after they barricaded a road with tree branches and burnt tyres.
According to Eswatini Bulletin, The main highway from Nhlangano to Lavumisa remained inaccessible for a long time after the protests who were believed to be from Hosea, MP Mabuza’s constituency, descended from around 4pm. The angry protesters cut down nearby trees from the bushy vegetation surrounding the highway and used the branches to form a barricade.
They were singing and chanting anti-government slogans, and further declared they would make the country ungovernable if their demands are not met.
