Mbabane: Amid tension, newly appointed Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini has officially taken the oath of office to officially assume his duties as the head of government.
The swearing-in took place on Tuesday at the cabinet offices where it was conducted by Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo.
The prime minister was appointed last Friday during the Sibaya where the king had called the nation to address issues that have been happening in the country.
Dlamini who was a senator was first sworn in as a member of the house of assembly before being sworn in as prime minister.
Before being sworn in as a member of the House of Assembly there was a brief exchange of words that took place in the house of parliament where members of parliament were questioning his appointment as prime minister.
The bone of contention was whether the prime minister’s appointment was constitutional as the constitution stipulates that he must be appointed from the house of assembly.
Speaker in the house of assembly had to explain to the members and produce a legal notice appointing the new prime minister as a member of the house of assembly signed by his Majesty King Mswati III, a day before his appointment.
While welcoming the prime minister, the speaker urged him t work closely with all relevant stakeholders in taking the country forwards.
