Sihlangu records first win

Mbabane: The senior national team Sihlangu Semnikati has started the COSAFA cup 2020 edition on a high note after beating Lesotho 3-1.

The national team opened their campaign in the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Lesotho yesterday at the FIFA 2010 World Cup Stadium, the Nelson Mandela Bay.

The national team goals came from Felix Badenhorst ,Khethokuhle Mkhontfo, and the man of the match Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba. The Lesotho national team was minus 1 man after Jane Thabantso was shown a straight red card for a foul to Captain Lindo Mkhontfo who was then stretchered off the field and was then replaced by Mlamuli Msibi in as early as the 5th minute.

Despite the red card, Lesotho’s spirit was never affected as they were in full control of the match. It was chance after another for the Lesotho national team with Sihlangu struggling to come to the party. Five minutes before the break, Sihlangu was awarded a free kick outside the box on the right flank for a handball. Felix Badenhorst who was by then captaining the team as he nicely curled the ball straight to the far corner of the net.

The second goal of the match came from Khethokuhle Mkhontfo who finished a loose ball. Then Fanelo’Order’Mamba sealed the game with a well-taken cross by Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa with 12 minutes remaining before full time. Now the National team is topping group A. The senior national team will tomorrow face the host team, South Africa, in their second game of the tournament.
