Brewing and selling of buganu strictly prohibited- acting PM

Mbabane: While alcohol sales and distribution remains banned, the brewing, the acting prime minister has also announce d that the brewing and selling of Marula beer (buganu) was strictly prohibited.

This announcement was made by the deputy prime minister on Thursday afternoon in a press conference at the cabinet offices. Making the announcement Masuku said that the brewing and selling of marula beer (buganu) was strictly prohibited.

Despite the fact that this is the Marula season, Masuku said the collection of the fruit is only allowed for two purposes that is the propagation of the marula plant, and the processing of non-alcohol marula products such as jam, oils, body lotion and others.

“You will agree with me that decisions whose outcomes affect many sectors of society are not easy to make, but they have to be taken anyway to save lives. We understand one thing, which is the guiding principle of the best interest of the nation – an alive, vibrant and healthy nation which Their Majesties so desire”, he said.

Masuku highlighted that it would be folly for the country to start relaxing restrictions at a time when the new variants of the virus, believed to be highly transmissible, was sprouting in different parts of the world. “We need this time to continue strengthening our COVID-19 surveillance systems to reduce the pressure on our health system and further strengthen our case management systems to reduce mortality in light of the third wave projected to start within the next two or three months”.

Worth noting is that with the extension of the current lockdown public gatherings remain prohibited except for funerals, which are limited to two hours with a maximum attendance of 50 people.
