FORM V RESULTS: 92.91% pass rate, second highest since 2011

Mbabane: Form V results are out!

Amid challenges brought by the COVIOD-19 pandemic, the 2020 Form V results improved compared to that of the previous year 2019.

The Minister of Education Lady Howard Mabuza announced on Monday that the 2020 Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education (EGCSE) and Pre-Vocational results showed a pass rate of 92.91%, an increase of 0.28% from 2019.

Announcing the results, the minister also announced that the results recorded in 2020 were the second highest in pass rate since 2011.

The EGCSE 2020 top students were; Nosisa S. Dlamini (St Michaels); Siphatselwe S. Dlamini; Adele S. Mamba; Nokuphiwa T. Dlamini; Ayandiswa Tsabedze (all St Marks) Pertunia T. Mamba (St Michaels); Sibusiso S. Nkambule (St Francis); Luyanda M. Chibwe (Ka Boyce) & Sihle T. Shongwe (Dwalile)

Candidates who credited subjects increased by 0.72% compared to 2019.

The minister also announced that this candidates were those who passed and scored A*-G in four or more subjects including English: 90.89%

On prevocational subjects the top student was Kwanele Dlamini from Franson Christian High School. The minister said the pass rate was 92.71% which showed a decrease of 0.94% from 2019 pass rate.

The total candidates who sat for 2020 ESGCE were 19 931 which showed a decrease compared to the 20 002 who sat for external exams in in2019.

In terms of high achieving schools, where the results were graded by schools who produced three (3) or more candidates with an aggregate of eleven (11) or better. St Marks High School was top in the boards with Nineteen (19) candidates followed by St. Francis High School with Twelve (12), Ebenezer FEA High School seven (7), Evelyn Baring High School seven (7), St Michael’s High School seven (7), Ka-Boyce High School Six (6), Manzini Nazarene High School got five (5), Nyamane High School five (5),  while Duze High School got four (4), Fonteyn High School four (4), Mpofu High School four (4), St Theresa’s High School four (4), Swazi National High School four (4), and Emthonjeni High School three (3), St John Bosco High School three (3).

In terms of high achieving rural schools, Ebenezer FEA High School got seven (7) candidates, Nyamane High School got five (5), Duze High School four (4), Mpofu High School four (4), Emthonjeni High School three (3) Entandweni High School two (2) While Madlangempisi High School got two (2) and Our Lady of Sorrows High School got two (2). In this category the rural schools were graded by schools producing 2 or more candidates with an aggregate of 11 or better.

In the grading distribution or results by region which is in terms of schools who scored Aggregate 11 or better the Hhohho region was at the top with fifteen (15) schools which produced fifty seven (57) candidates.

Lubombo region come second with thirteen (13) schools which produced twenty (20) students. Manzini was third with fifteen (15) schools which produced thirty five (35) students, while Shiselweni come last with seven (7) schools which produced thirty five (35) students.

Overall, the total number of schools in all the regions who got Aggregate 11 or better were fifty (50), twenty seven (27) schools  are in the rural areas, four (4) in the semi-urban while nineteen (19) in urban arrears, and  they produced a total number of 136 candidates.

The minister congratulated the class of 2020 for making it through despite the challenger brought by the coronavirus pandemic.  “I would like to congratulate the class of 2020 who worked hard under difficult circumstances. I would also like to thank all teachers for their efforts. These results are a product of your good work. Parents also did a good job supporting their children.”
