Mbabane: Modercai Donga, the Eswatini TV License Project Manager has urged EmaSwati be compliant and to pay their TV licenses even this year.

Speaking at the Eswatini Communications Commission offices on Monday morning Donga said as the TV licenses team they have seen a drastic increase in number of EmaSwati paying the TV licenses but there were still those who were not complying and urged everyone who owns a TV set to comply and pay their incenses.

He said by law, all EmaSwati who owns a TV set are supposed to pay an annual fee as prescribed in the Swaziland Television Authority Act of 1983.

Donga highlighted that non-compliance of the law will lead to defaulters paying a penalty fee or face prosecution. He highlighted that as at December 31, 2020 about 500 people were prosecuted for failure to pay their TV incenses.

Donga, to date they have over 100 000 people on their database and as part of their mission to build  fee collection systems that work efficiently and effectively, they have been able to partner with key stakeholders to make TV license payments, like using MTN Mobile Money service, Eswatini Mobile e-Mali, and paying through the post office. This is also in response to curb the spread of COVID-19, such payment options limits human contact, face to face and money exchange over the counter.
