Lobamba: Now Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga looked to be handing his ‘magic touch’ to incumbent Sihlangu coach Dominic Kunene.
Bulunga, who is also Mbabane East Member of Parliament remains the country senior football national team Sihlangu most successful coach after leading the nation’s pride to a rare-as-hen’s-tooth bronze medal in the 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup.
Also, Bulunga missed a spot in the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations finals by a whisker after a cruel away last game draw against Malawi.
The minister took time to meet Sihlangu after Wednesday’s morning training session. Bulunga was at Somhlolo National Stadium to tour the near complete facelift and rehabilitation of the stadium which include among others dressing rooms, doping room and media conference room worth about E10 million.
Coach Kunene revealed to journalist that he was gunning for nine points out of the 12 to play for in Group I of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers starting with this month’s back-to-back clashes with Congo Brazaville.
Following 0-3 and 1-4 defeats to Guinea-Bissau and Senegal and the opening two matches of the group, Kunene and his technical team need wins soonest to salvage chances of guiding the country to its first ever AFCON final appearance.
