Mbabane: Hardly three (3) days left before the event, the Lockdown Gospel Music Awards (LEGMA) has been postponed to a date and venue to be confirmed.

The postponement of the event comes at a time when there is a management conflict at the Metropolitan church, a venue where the awards were to take place.

Speaking to this publication, LEGMA public relations officer Nhlanhla Mathunjwa confirmed the developments saying a new venue and date will be revealed soon.

Mathunjwa said as the organizing committee they did all they could in the planning and preparations for the Awards but they were forced to postpone the event due to reasons beyond control. “A date and venue will be confirmed, and it will not be long we will host the awards” he said.

A statement published in the Eswatini Gospel Music Awards Facebook page states that “We have decided to postpone the Lockdown Gospel Music Awards 2020 which was scheduled for this Saturday, 7th November 2020 to distance ourselves from our initial venue which has internal management contentions.

“Following that and guidance from ACAESWA, we remain excited to host you soon, new date and venue will be announced in the next 24 hours”.

In a press statement the Association of Christian Artists of Eswatini (ACAESWA) also confirmed the postponement of the awards stating that “Following the conflicts that have unveiled within the Metropolitan Evangelical Church Directorship around the gospel music awards that had been planned for 7th November 2020, at the very same church, we regret to inform you that the event has been postponed with immediate effect to a new venue and date that shall be confirmed to the public and sponsors in the next 24 hours”.

“We would like to state that as an association we have all documents and agreements that had been prepared for the event with the said partners, however, we would prefer not to be caught in the middle of the existing conflicts of the church and would solely like to focus all our resources on the awards themselves being a success,” reads the statement.

“This will protect our image and will guarantee the safety of all our guests for the event. We sincerely apologize to the government, sponsors, artists, fans and all stakeholders for the inconveniences caused in this regard,” reads statement.

“Be kindly assured that the awards shall be a great success and of high standard as planned and we giving it our highest priority. In the meantime, all voting lines shall be opened until the new date that shall be unveiled soon”.

Worth noting is that Voting has not been closed and this gives you extra time for artists to push for their votes. ACAESWA also encouraged the public to continue to vote for their favorite artist and not lose momentum. “People can still continue purchasing tickets to the event as they are available on the ACAESWA website”.
