Mbabane – A 56-year-old woman allegedly lost E41 000 after a 47-year-old Lavumisa man promised her a directorship in a sugar cane farming business.
Manzini police have arrested and charged the man, who allegedly convinced the woman that he held a senior position in a sugar cane association and had access to investment opportunities in the Lavumisa area.
According to police, the suspect allegedly claimed to have close links to royalty and told the woman that stakes were available in the sugar cane farming business.
Believing the claims, the woman allegedly invested E41 000, only to later discover that she had allegedly been defrauded.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Manzini Magistrates Court today to face the charge.
In a separate case, Manzini police are investigating the alleged theft of E112 745 belonging to an interstate association.
Police said the money was allegedly taken from the association’s mobile money account by an accountant.
The suspect allegedly withdrew or transferred the money at different intervals.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
