State of National Emergency extended to November 19

Mbabane: The Deputy Prime Minister Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku says the National Emergency has been extended twice and it will come to an end on November 19.

The latest declaration elapsed on September 19 as it was announced by the Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini.

In ministerial statement by the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister to the Parliament it was revealed that the country will remain under the national emergency state.  

Initially, Government through the Right Honourable Prime Minster Ambrose Dlamini declared a national state of emergency on March 24 invoking the Disaster Management Act 2006.

Deputy Prime Minister Masuku told Members of the Parliament that COVID-19 will even after the elapse of the national emergency therefore measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 must continue. He said the COVID-19 regulations have been reviewed with multiple stakeholders and will be presented to the house pending approval by Cabinet. He said these will ensure enforcement of the measures.

Masuku also revealed that in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, a risk communication and community engagement plan to promote behaviour change towards COVID-19 prevention has been agreed upon and resources to roll it out are being mobilized.
