The campaign will cover all four regions and will focus on helping members of the public understand the changes brought by the new legislation, which came into effect on July 1, 2026.
SMVAF Chief Executive Officer Khangeziwe Mabuza announced the campaign during the Fund’s Quarter One Business Review Forum, where the organisation outlined its priorities for the new financial year.
The outreach programme will form part of the Fund’s response to the new legal framework, with officials expected to engage communities directly on the Act and the services provided by SMVAF.
Mabuza also revealed that the Fund’s new strategy had passed its internal review process and was now before the Ministry of Finance for final approval.
The CEO said internal operational changes were also being introduced to prepare the Fund’s departments for the implementation of the new strategy and legislation.
The new Act is expected to change the legal framework governing public compensation through SMVAF.
During the review, Mabuza also addressed staff conduct, warning employees against misconduct and stressing that ethical behaviour was expected across the organisation.
The Fund’s first-quarter review therefore comes with SMVAF preparing to implement its new legal and strategic framework while taking information about the changes directly to communities.
