Mbabane – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has warned members of the public against paying money to people claiming to have access to police jobs, saying the much-anticipated recruitment exercise has not yet started.
The warning follows His Majesty King Mswati III’s announcement during the 119th Anniversary and 23rd Police Day celebrations that the police service would recruit new officers this year to fill vacant posts.
In a statement issued yesterday, REPS said preparations were still underway and no official recruitment process had commenced.
“Recruitment has not started. Although His Majesty has given approval, the official hiring process has not begun,” REPS said.
The police service said extensive preparations were required before recruitment could begin to ensure that the process was conducted properly.
REPS also warned that no police job is for sale, saying no officer or official would request money, gifts or favours in exchange for employment.
It said any person making such demands was engaging in fraudulent and criminal conduct.
“There are NO fees. No payment of any kind is required for any document, process or services related to REPS recruitment,” the statement reads.
The warning comes amid concerns that scammers could take advantage of job seekers following the announcement that police recruitment would take place this year.
REPS said members of the public should rely only on official communication when the recruitment exercise eventually opens.
The service said details of the recruitment process would be announced through its official platforms, the Government Gazette, national radio and other reputable media houses.
The official announcement will provide applicants with the relevant timelines and procedures to be followed.
REPS cautioned members of the public to remain vigilant, saying fraudsters often take advantage of recruitment announcements to target unsuspecting job seekers.
It warned that anyone found committing or assisting in recruitment-related fraud would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
