Manzini – A 44-year-old Nyakeni man accused of murdering his girlfriend after allegedly strangling her during a domestic dispute has been remanded in custody after making an appearance before the Manzini Magistrate’s Court.
Majahonkhe Major Masuku is facing a charge of murder following the death of 36-year-old Nomvula Simelane of Hluthi, whose body was discovered inside the accused’s house at KaKhoza area in the Manzini region during the early hours of July 29.
Court records allege that Masuku wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally killed Simelane at KaKhoza in the Manzini District.According to information presented before the court, the deceased had been visiting the accused when an argument allegedly broke out between the couple. Police investigations indicate that the dispute stemmed from allegations of infidelity before it escalated into violence.
It is alleged that Simelane was strangled during the altercation. After the incident, Masuku allegedly contacted the police and informed them of what had occurred, leading to his immediate arrest.
When the matter came before the Manzini Magistrate’s Court again, the accused was remanded in custody until 05 August 2026 as investigations continue. The case was postponed to allow the Crown to finalise its investigations before the matter can proceed.
The alleged killing has once again drawn attention to the persistent challenge of gender-based violence in the country, where domestic disputes continue to account for a significant number of violent crimes reported to police.
