Mbabane – A 26-year-old Mahwalala woman has been fined E500 after she was found guilty of submitting a forged Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education (EGCSE) statement of results in an attempt to secure admission at Eswatini College of Technology (ECOT).
Tenanile Treasure Nhlabatsi appeared before Mbabane Magistrate C. Thwala, where she was convicted of uttering a forged document.
The court heard that during 2025, Nhlabatsi presented and submitted a falsified EGCSE statement of results to ECOT while applying for admission into the Diploma in Human Resources Management programme.
According to the charge sheet, she submitted the document as though it was genuine, despite knowing that it had been forged. The State alleged that the intention was to deceive the college into believing that she had met the academic requirements for admission.
In mitigation, Nhlabatsi told the court that she accepted responsibility and admitted that she had made a mistake.
She explained that she was trying to assist herself with her education. She further told the court that she was unemployed and did not have children who depended on her.
Magistrate Thwala sentenced Nhlabatsi to pay a fine of E500 or face five months’ imprisonment.
