Siteki – Police have launched an investigation into a suspected murder-suicide after a 24-year-old woman and two toddlers died after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance at KaMartin.
The incident occurred at about 6.15pm on Thursday in the KaMartin area under the Siteki policing precinct.
According to police, the deceased are a two-year-old boy, a one-year-old boy and their 24-year-old mother.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman allegedly forced the two children to ingest a poisonous substance before consuming it herself.
Police said the incident is believed to have followed an argument between the woman and the father of the one-year-old child.
The three were rushed to hospital for medical attention but were certified dead on arrival.
Police have since opened an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased pending the completion of investigations and notification of their next of kin.
The incident is the latest in a series of domestic-related tragedies reported in the country. Police have urged members of the public experiencing family or relationship disputes to seek assistance from relatives, community leaders, counsellors or relevant support services before situations escalate into violence.
