Mbabane: Popular radio personality Dan ‘Sphampanana’ Duma has passed on.

The news of his demise took social media abuzz on Tuesday, as people had already started sending their condolences to the family and friends. Most of those sharing the condolences expressed shock and extended sympathy to the family.

Siphampana was admitted in hospital on Friday after a tragic incident that took at Sidvwashini where he was burnt in a house together with his girlfriend Thembsile ‘Tem Tem’ Lukhele by a man believed to be associated with the woman.

They both sustained first degree burnt injuries as they were burnt beyond recognition before being rushed to Mbabane government hospital where they were later transferred to RFM hospital in Manzini in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Police quickly closed in the culprit Ricardo de Sousa as he was currently kept in custody. Information gathered was that the man came to the scene in the morning while the family and neighboring were still putting out the remains of the fire which reduced all house belongings to ashes.  The people around recognized him as he was watching the action from a distance and he was pursued, captured and ‘dealt with’ before the police came to his rescue.

On September 28, 2020 de Sousa appeared before senior acting Mbabane Senior Magistrate Sifiso Vilakati where he was facing two attempted murder chargers, on the first count de Sousa is alleged to have locked Duma in his house and further set the house on fire from which the latter nearly died.

In another attempted murder charge De Sousa is accused of locking Thembsile ‘Tem Tem’ Lukhele in a house and further setting it on fire.

De Sousa was also charged with arson in that he allegedly set fire on the house with immovable property belonging to Duma.

Prior De Sousa was charged for contravening Section 77 (1) (a) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of 2018. He is accused of assaulting his former girlfriend (Lukhele) with fists all over her body.

The assault incident happened on September 7, 2020, according to the charge sheet. It is alleged that De Sousa was wanted by the police for the assault offence when he allegedly attacked the duo.

The Crown applied that de Sousa be remanded in custody until October 9, 2020 pending committal to the High Court.
