MBABANE— A young Eswatini software developer is making waves in the local entertainment industry by creating a platform designed to give local artists the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
Samkeliso Zikalala, an entrepreneur, software developer and founder of Eswatini Hits, has launched a digital music platform dedicated to promoting and supporting musicians from across the Kingdom. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA), Zikalala says his passion for technology and innovation inspired him to create solutions that address real challenges within society.
Growing up in Eswatini, he observed that many talented artists struggled to gain visibility, build audiences and access the digital opportunities available to musicians in larger markets. Despite the country’s rich musical talent, there was no dedicated platform focused solely on showcasing and promoting Eswatini music.
This challenge led to the creation of Eswatini Hits, a platform designed to become a digital home for local artists and music lovers.
According to Zikalala, Eswatini Hits allows artists to create professional profiles, upload music, connect with fans and grow their audiences through a platform that prioritises local talent. The platform welcomes musicians from various genres, including Gospel, Hip-Hop, Afro-Pop, Amapiano, R&B, House Music, Traditional Music and Poetry.
“The vision is to create a digital home for local music where artists can gain exposure, build their brands and reach listeners both within Eswatini and beyond our borders,” he said.
Artists who join the platform benefit from increased exposure, music upload and distribution opportunities, audience engagement statistics and promotion through both the website and mobile application. The platform also aims to foster a growing community that supports local creativity and artistic development.
Looking ahead, Eswatini Hits plans to introduce artist monetisation opportunities through advertising partnerships, sponsorships, premium subscriptions and promotional services. The long-term goal is to establish a fair and transparent system that enables artists to generate income from their music while strengthening the country’s music industry.
In a major milestone, Eswatini Hits has also launched its Android mobile application, allowing users to discover, stream and download local music directly from their smartphones.
Since its launch, artists including King Lalakazi, Bless LePoet, Ace MA and Jazzy T SD have already joined the platform and shared their music with audiences.
Zikalala said the vision is for Eswatini Hits to become the leading digital music platform in Eswatini and eventually one of Africa’s most recognised music platforms. He added that the team is continuously developing new features, improved artist tools and audience growth opportunities to help musicians build successful careers.
Artists interested in joining can register, create profiles and upload their music through the platform. Through innovation and technology, Zikalala hopes Eswatini Hits will empower local talent, celebrate Eswatini culture and create new opportunities for the next generation of musicians.
