KWALEUSENI – The newly crowned Mr and Miss University of Eswatini (UNESWA) walked away with more than just prestigious titles on Friday evening.
The winners also received a sponsorship of driving lessons from Nhlanez Driving School.
The UNESWA Sports Emporium was filled with excitement as students, supporters and members of the public gathered to witness the crowning of the institution’s new campus royalty. The annual pageant attracted 15 contestants, comprising 11 female contestants and four male contestants, all competing for the coveted titles.
At the end of a fiercely contested competition, Shlelelwe Dlamini was crowned Mr UNESWA 2026, succeeding outgoing titleholder Sisekelo Motsa, while Blessing Simelane was crowned Miss UNESWA 2026, taking over from Ayanda Shabangu.
Their triumph was further sweetened by scholarships from Nhlanez Driving School worth E4 200. Dlamini received a Heavy Duty driving licence scholarship, while Simelane secured a Light Duty driving licence scholarship, prizes that many attendees praised as both practical and beneficial for the winners’ future development.
The pageant commenced with contestants proudly showcasing Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage through traditional attire, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience. The competition then moved into the casual wear segment before concluding with an elegant fashion showcase that highlighted the contestants’ confidence, style and stage presence.
Throughout the evening, contestants received overwhelming support from spectators, with every appearance drawing loud cheers and applause. The atmosphere reached its peak as judges deliberated and audience members illuminated the Sports Emporium with their cellphone flashlights while awaiting the final results, creating a breathtaking spectacle inside the venue.
Celebrations erupted when the winners were announced, with supporters dancing, embracing and congratulating the newly crowned titleholders.
Nokuphiwa Gama claimed the Second Princess title in the female category, while Wakhile Dlamini secured the position of Second Prince among the male contestants.
Many patrons described the event as one of the university’s most entertaining student activities, applauding the organisation, fashion displays and the high level of competition showcased by the contestants.
The inclusion of driving scholarships was particularly welcomed, with many believing the initiative adds meaningful value to the pageant. Student Lungani Shiba said the additional prizes would encourage more students to participate in future editions.
“I think this initiative will motivate others to take part in the pageant next year because there is something to gain besides the title,” said Shiba.
The pageant once again proved to be a highlight of the university calendar, celebrating beauty, confidence, culture and personal development while rewarding participants with opportunities that extend beyond their reign as campus royalty.
