Qomintaba– Residents of Qomintaba in the Shiselweni Region now have access to clean and reliable water following the official handover of the Qomintaba Water Supply Scheme on Monday.
The project will provide water to 169 homesteads in the Qomintaba area under the Matsanjeni South constituency. It was implemented through the Regional Development Fund (RDF) under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development’s Microprojects Programme at a total cost of about E4 million.
The RDF contributed approximately E3.7 million towards the project, while the Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) provided material worth about E300 000.
Community members, through the Qomintaba Water Association under the Qomintaba Royal Kraal, also contributed 10 percent in cash and in kind as part of the project requirements.
Residents are expected to benefit from improved access to water for household use and small-scale commercial activities such as vegetable gardening and fruit production. Community members in the area largely depend on casual labour and street vending for income.
The water scheme will serve communities under the chieftaincy of Chief Gasa WaNgwane. Responsibility for the operation, management and maintenance of the project will rest with the local community to support its continued operation.
EWSC announced plans to install prepaid water meters to help residents manage consumption and reduce the burden associated with post-paid billing systems.
Qomintaba is one of about 40 projects implemented during the 2024/2025 financial year through the Microprojects Programme.
The programme, which operates under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, supports community-initiated infrastructure projects across Eswatini through the Regional Development Fund. Projects supported by the programme include water supply schemes, roads and community halls.
