Republic Of China in Taiwan PPE donation to Eswatini Rural Health Workers

Mbabane: The Republic of China in Taiwan has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to community health workers.

The donation ceremony was held at Mountain Inn hotel on Friday.

The donation comprises of 3000 backpacks, 5000 clothing masks, 55, 000 IEC on hand washing and mask wearing, 55,000 IEC on danger signs of material and new born.

Oliver Harn, Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan said all the donated material are to be used by ruaral health workers in capacitating them in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

He said these were part of the efforts to show the commitments of the Republic of China in Taiwan to help Eswatini in the fight against COVID-19. He added that they were pleased about the continued cooperation between Eswatini and Taiwan.

Harn noted that Taiwan has been an ally for Eswatini for over 52 years, the technical cooperation projects started in 1969 under the bilateral frameworks, which currently has four projects in different areas running.

Since inception of the projects, Harn noted that people in rural arrears were facing a serious shortage of food during this pandemic. He said the embassy, working with the technical mission are delivering rice, food parcels, wheel chairs, sanitizers to every corner of Eswatini.

In the past six months, Harn said they have visited more than 50 Tinkhundla centers, where they were able to help the elderly, women, and children especially those faced with hunger and poverty.

Harn said as their commitment to help Eswatini fight the coronavirus pandemic over the past six months, Taiwan has been able to provide medical assistance in many ways such as sending medical teams to share protocol to fight against covid-19, donating an ambulance, surgical masks, PPEs Ventilators, pharmaceuticals, Nucleic acid analyzers, rapid testing kits and many other things.

Harn said what Taiwan has done presents a model which means that Taiwan is ready to use its excess capacity to contribute to the kingdom and the world.
