Lozitha : His Majesty King Mswati III also detailed Taiwan’s longstanding contribution to Eswatini’s development, citing multiple sectors that have benefited from the partnership between the two nations.
He said Taiwan has played a significant role in infrastructure development, agriculture, water systems, and rural electrification.
“We exhibit here in Eswatini that they contributed a lot in terms of infrastructural development, agricultural activities, water systems, rural electrifications and so forth,” said the King.
He noted that Taiwan also contributed to the development of the ICC Ezulwini Palazzo itself, particularly during a period when government was mobilising funding for the project.
“When the government was getting a lot of funding, Taiwan saw it fit that they will not be left behind as part of this contribution,” he said.
The King expressed satisfaction that President Lai Ching-te was present to witness the completed facility, describing it as part of a broader success story.
Looking ahead, His Majesty outlined several ongoing and upcoming projects being implemented in collaboration with Taiwan.
These include the strategic oil reserve, which he said was nearing completion, as well as a new industrial park expected to be fully funded and operated by Taiwanese partners working alongside emaSwati.
“There is also a new industrial park which we are working on very closely with Taiwan. It will be fully funded and operated by the Taiwanese working with emaSwati,” he said.
The King emphasised the importance of transferring knowledge and expertise from Taiwan to Eswatini, particularly in advanced industries.
He noted that Taiwan’s experience in sectors such as semiconductors, manufacturing, and agriculture could play a transformative role in Eswatini’s industrial growth.
“Having been to Taiwan many times, I can attest that I have seen their industrial parks — very advanced,” he said.
He cited examples of large-scale industrial success in Taiwan, including companies generating significant revenues, as a benchmark for what Eswatini could aspire to achieve.
“We hope that with that experience from the Taiwanese, those kinds of industries will be brought here,” said the King.
