Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko has travelled to the Sultanate of Oman on a working visit running from 12 to 14 April 2026, with talks expected to focus on solar energy, minerals and oil.
The visit builds on President Boko’s official engagement in Muscat in 2025, which led to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Botswana and Oman in October 2025. Following that milestone, a high-level business delegation from Oman visited Botswana later that same year.
While in Oman, President Boko and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will hold official talks aimed at consolidating and expanding areas of cooperation between the two countries, with discussions expected to centre on energy and natural resources.
The two leaders will also witness the signing of three agreements covering partnerships in the solar energy, minerals and oil sectors. The agreements are aligned with Botswana’s broader economic diplomacy objectives, particularly efforts by the Presidency to attract investors and generate revenue for the country.
As part of his programme, President Boko will visit the Sohar Port and Free Zone to gain insight into best practices in industrial development and logistics.
The President is accompanied by senior government officials and is expected to return to Gaborone on 14 April 2026. Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe is serving as Acting President in his absence.
