Mbabane – The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office announced on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, that an agreement for the donation of the Universal (Accessible) School Transport Project was officially concluded during the visit of Kato Asuka, Programme Director from the Japan International Cooperation System.
Kato met with Principal Secretary Sibusiso Nkambule and Disability Manager Fikile Shongwe to mark the completion of the agreement, which aims to provide school transport that promotes equal access to education for all children. Discussions around the initiative began in early December 2025, with Tuesday’s signing formalizing the arrangement.
Kato Asuka stated that the organisation will continue working closely with the Kingdom of Eswatini to ensure the project’s successful implementation and lasting impact for persons with disabilities. The initiative is funded through a JPY 103 million grant, approximately SZL 12.5 million, which will cover the procurement of universally accessible school buses and training for drivers and technicians.
