MBABANE – Four rural primary schools in Eswatini have received science kits from the Kingdom of Eswatini Academy of Sciences (KEAS) to support hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The schools are Kuhlahla Primary in Hhohho, Nsubane Primary in Shiselweni, Sankolweni Primary in Manzini, and Emhlabeni Primary in Lubombo.
KEAS president Dr Thabile Ndlovu said the kits are designed to help learners understand scientific concepts and spark curiosity in STEM subjects. She noted that the organisation previously introduced the Curiosity Cube last year and plans to bring it back in July.
The kits were handed over to the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Training, Nanikie Mnisi, who praised KEAS for collaborating with the ministry to strengthen science education in primary schools. She explained that the kits are key resources for the Competency Based Education curriculum, transforming classrooms into spaces for exploration, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation.
Mnisi said the kits will allow teachers to move beyond theory and engage learners in practical activities that make science enjoyable and meaningful. She encouraged schools to use the kits responsibly to foster critical thinking, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of scientific concepts among learners.
