Mbabane: The government of Eswatini’s long-term projections had predicted a peak in July and a potential increase in cases in November depending on the level of adherence to prevention guidelines especially social distancing protocols.

This was revealed by Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini on Saturday when giving updates on the country’s response to COVID-19. We need to attain less than 50 active cases to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 through gatherings. Currently we have more than 700 active cases. Of concern is the high rate of deaths which now stands at around 2%, and among the highest in the region.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Minister of Health Lizzy announced 39 new COVID-19 cases, taking the cumulative number of confirmed infection in the country to 4 819. The new positive cases came from the 300 test results received by the ministry for the past 24 hour cycle.
