Mbabane – The Eswatini National Trust Commission (ENTC) has launched two intensive capacity-building workshops this month to strengthen gender equality and family awareness in conservation efforts.

The first workshop took place at Malolotja Nature Reserve from 9 to 10 February 2026, followed by a second session at Magadzavane from 11 to 12 February. The initiatives are part of the Accelerating Systematic Change for Gender Equality and Biodiversity Conservation Project.

Rangers, park wardens, education and outreach officers, and human resources practitioners attended the sessions to deepen their understanding of gender roles, family dynamics, and their impact on biodiversity conservation.

Participants explored concepts such as gender-responsive conservation planning, inclusive leadership, and community engagement, while discussing strategies to address gender-based risks and workplace challenges in conservation areas. The workshops also examined how gender equality and family well-being directly influence conservation outcomes.

The ENTC noted that the initiative supports the CBD Gender Plan of Action, the gender-responsive update of Eswatini’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, and preparations for the Seventh National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The Commission said, “Together, we are building a conservation sector that is inclusive, resilient, and people-centred; because protecting the environment starts with empowering those who protect it.”
