Dubai – Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon Tatenda Mavetera, has revealed that he took part in high-level discussions at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2026 in Dubai this week.
Speaking about his participation, Hon Mavetera said, “This week at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2026 in Dubai, I was privileged to represent the Government of Zimbabwe in critical discussions that align perfectly with our National Development Strategy.”
During the summit, he joined President H.E Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa in a meeting with Prateek Suri, CEO of the Maser Group. Hon Mavetera described the discussions as pivotal, focusing on two transformative initiatives.
The first initiative is the local manufacturing of electronic equipment, aiming to establish “OEM Manufacturing” capabilities in Zimbabwe. According to Hon Mavetera, this move is intended to support import substitution, create jobs, and strengthen technological sovereignty.
The second initiative involves venture capital funding to support high-potential ICT startups. The minister said, “This will catalyze innovation and position Zimbabwe as a startup hub in the region.”
Hon Mavetera expressed appreciation for the summit organisers, UAE partners, and private sector leaders, including the Maser Group, who he said recognize Zimbabwe’s potential. He added, “The future is digital, and Zimbabwe is decisively claiming its place in it. Happy Sabbath.”
