NEW YORK – Lesotho is actively participating in the 64th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64), held from 2 to 10 February 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Representing the Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Honourable Pitso Lesaoana, Lesotho’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Matete ’Nena, delivered the country’s National Statement on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.
This year’s session is centred on the theme, “Advancing social development and social justice through coordinated, equitable and inclusive policies.” Discussions focus on eradicating poverty, strengthening dignity, and building resilient care and support systems. The meeting also follows up on the Second World Summit for Social Development and seeks to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In his address, Ambassador ’Nena said, “Lesotho remains committed to advancing social protection, reducing inequalities, and ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind.” He highlighted efforts to strengthen social safety nets, expand access to essential services, and promote inclusive economic participation.
Concluding his statement, he added, “Lesotho stands ready to work with all Member States to advance a future where every person enjoys freedom, equality, and opportunity; where social protection is universal; and where development is inclusive, sustainable, and just.”
